Laimun presents Remanence Remanence, a duo exhibition by Hirofumi Abe and Daniel Augschöll, showcasing photographs and paintings created during their time in Villacidro, Sardinia, Italy. The title emerges from the artists' reflection on artworks as personal attempts to inhabit memory, offering viewers fragments like the residue of something already vanished. The French word rémanence refers to sensations that linger after their cause has vanished. This concept of persistent echoes is reflected in the exhibition's doubled title, evoking the repetitive words Tacita Dean discovered on a post-it note in Cy Twombly's studio.
Through focused observation, Abe captures gestures and creates sketches, preserving the memory of layered objects and details. This memory is later summoned in paintings built from recollection, evoking place in moments removed from original seeing. Augschöll approaches with respectful attention the plants, animals, and objects that inhabit the residence space more persistently than any human presence, transforming them into symbols of the place's memory.
